Picture yourself in a room heated to temperatures ranging from 89 to over 110 degrees Fahrenheit, where the sound of sweat dripping on the mat is a common symphony during class. But before you embark on this intense journey, especially if it’s your first time, you might be wondering what to wear and how to prepare.

Hot yoga is a dynamic form of yoga practiced in rooms heated above normal temperatures, harnessing the power of heat and exertion to sweat out toxins. With the added heat and humidity, the practice becomes less forgiving, but immensely rewarding. The postures and sequence may vary from class to class, depending on the instructor’s preferences and expertise.

Now, let’s talk attire and essentials for your hot class adventure. In such intense conditions, moisture-wicking fabrics are your best bet. Opt for garments made from a polyester/spandex blend, like the buttery-soft microfiber yarn found in our leggings and tops, to ensure maximum comfort and moisture management. Steer clear of 100 percent cotton as it tends to absorb sweat, making your clothes heavier and less breathable.

Look for stretchy, comfortable clothing with moisture-wicking properties to swiftly dissipate excess sweat and minimize the chances of sweat stains and odors. Many activewear brands offer moisture-wicking and breathable fabrics, typically crafted from lightweight materials such as mesh or polyester, known for their durability and wrinkle-free nature.

While shorts might be the go-to choice for most yoga, pilates, buti, or sculpt classes, opting for leggings or long pants in hot yoga can offer added benefits. Shorts can lead to slippery thighs, making certain poses challenging. Leggings or pants provide the necessary grip, particularly in poses like crow pose where arms rest on thighs. Look for designs with minimal seams for enhanced comfort and freedom of movement, and choose lightweight, dry fabrics with ample stretch. Tapered bottoms ensure your clothing stays in place, allowing you to focus on your practice without distractions.
